Widow's application denied due to lack of evidence. They were unable to confirm the unit or commanding officer's name. Widow and witnesses stated that McCormick lived near Cincinnati, Ohio and went to Newport, Kentucky to enlist in the KY militia. He was underaged, but accepted. He served in Florida warring against the Indians. File states that McCormick married Elvira Miller on 15 February 1842 in Knox County, Kentucky. Officiant was a minister of the gospel, William Happer [Napper?]. The widow was a resident of Jarvis Store, Knox, Kentucky in 1878 when papers were filed. Chaplin McCormick died in California in 1851 or 1852. One witness was Benjamin Smith. This appears to be Chaplin's son in law. SEE PAPERS AS JPG FILES UNDER CHAPLIN MCCORMICK.
