Sedan Times-Star - April 14, 1982 MRS. DESSIE SALLEE Dessie V. Sallee, of Sedan, died Wednesday, April 7, at the Sedan City Hospital. She was 81 years of age; born September 16, 1900 to Samuel and Mary Sanborn Bruner at Lowe, Chautauqua County, Kansas. She was united in marriage on June 23, 1920, to William (Carl) Sallee at Sedan. Survivors are one son, Lyle D. Sallee, Fort Smith, Ark.; two daughters, Wanda M. Call of Mulvane, and Mary E. Raybourn of Denver. Colo.; two brothers Louis W. Bruner of Sedan and Beryl K. Bruner of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two sisters Edna Ferguson and Fledah Thomas, both of Santa Ana, Calif.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Carl; one son, Darrell E. Sallee; her parents; two brothers, Dwight M. Bruner and Orville S. Bruner; one sister Barbara Olive Bruner; and one granddaughter, Kathryn Jean Sallee. Dessie was active in church and community affairs during her life time. Before her marriage, she taught school in rural Chautauqua County for two years. She was active in her church, and served as deaconess in the first Baptist church for 20 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post of Sedan. After moving to Sedan from their farm in Elk County, Carl and Dessie owned and operated a service station and motel for 27 years. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist church with the Rev. Dois Nix officiating. Interment was at Greenwood cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the First Baptist Church in Sedan. |
