Facts and Events
Known as Bing, he married Mary Agatha Woods on 03 Nov 1887 in Nicholas, WV. On the 1900 census, his birth month is incorrect. Family stories always said that Big had a great sense of humor. (He was greatly revered by all in the family.) It would fit that he'd "lie" for the shear joy of the joke to a census taker. He and his family lived just a few houses away from his brother John W. Sparks. By the 1910 census, Bing was married 22 years to "Marie A." (Mary), the same age as him. His teenage niece, Florence, lived with them. He was a farmer. Later, he was a carpenter. His son provided the info for his death certificate and did not know who his own grandparents were. Family story: Just before Bing died, he ate quite a bit of chocolate while drinking quite a lot of whiskey. As embalming was not done in those days, Bing was buried "as is." His grave blew up from the chemical mix of chocolate and whiskey. Afterwards, it kept sinking and had to be continually refilled until it settled. This story has not been checked for authenticity. We like it just the way it is and think Bing would too. Copy of marriage register index on file. References
