Living in Township #8, Calaveras County, CA at 1860 Census. It would appear that he married first before leaving for California, as the gravestone of Anne, wife of A.M. Wardwell, is found at the South Church Cemetery in Andover.

15 May, 20 July and 20 September 1869, purchased land in Fresno, California At 1880 Census, living with brother William in San Francisco. 16 August 1890 on Tax Rolls in Tulare County, California 19 May 1892 and 21 March 1893 purchased land in Tulare County, California In San Francisco in 1889 as a Sheepraiser at 1613 Franklin Street.

He and his brother William married sisters.
