Art Sneller was born near Monroe, Iowa, on April 5, 1930. He weighed only two pounds, small enough to fit in a shoe box. He was the youngest of six children, four brothers and one sister. He attended school in Colfax where he completed the eighth grade. After he finished school he went to work for his brother, Henry, for a few years and then worked for a family friend on the farm. He was working for Edwin Vander Ploeg when, at the age of twenty, he met Marjorie Klyn in Pella. They married January 5, 1951, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella.
Their first home was in Otley. While living there, their son Allen was born in 1953. Art worked at the Otley Co-op for a short time and then became employed in the window department at the Pella Rolscreen Company. He also did carpet and furniture cleaning on the side through Duraclean International. Art and Marjorie moved into Pella when Allen was one year old. Their daughter, Mary, was born in 1957 and another daughter, Brenda, in 1962. After forty-two years of employment, Art retired in April, 1995. During that time he attained several years of perfect attendance.
Art passed away at the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the age of seventy-nine.
