Notes

ARTHUR GLADSTONE was born circa 1760 at Worchester County, Maryland. Arthur was a loyalist and served as a Private in the British Army during the Revolutionary War. It is said that he was captured at the battle of Yorktown and imprisioned at Fredericksburg, Vriginia. Arthur and his family were living in Fauquier County when the 1810 Federal Census was taken. One author says that the descendants of Arthur Gladstone changed their name to Gladson. The name Gladson will be used only where it is specifically used by a descendant.

Known children of Susannah "Susan"3 Hitt and Arthur GLADSTONE were as follows:

74. i. PRESLEY R.4 was born circa 1792 at Virginia. He married Frances "Fanny" Allison, daughter of William Allison and Nancy Whalen, on 23 Dec 1817 at Fauquier County, Virginia. He died circa 1836.
75. ii. HANNAH HITT was born circa 1792 at Virginia. She married Thomas ROwLEY on 23 Dec 1817 at Fauquier County, Virginia.
iii. SUSANNAH married Daniel Hanbrick on 22 Dec 1819 at Fauquier County, Virginia.
76. iv. PATSEY married John Smedley on 31 Dec 1829 at Fauquier County, Virginia.
77. v. MAHALIA HENSFORD was born on 20 Jun 1812 at Virginia. The 1860 census gives birth: abt 1805. She married William Russell HITT, son of Benjamin HITT Rev. and Nancy Curnal, on 8 Apr 1832 at Culpeper County, Virginia. Germanna Record No. 5 gives the name William H. Hitt which is believed to be in error. The marriage bond record notes that Mahala is the daughter of Arthur Gladstone and that her husband was the son of Rev. Benjamin Hitt. She died on 12 Jun 1901 at Thornville, Perry County, Ohio, at age 88 ( Mahalia died of old age, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 3 days ).
78. vi. ANSYLANY married Garrett Thompson Hitt, son of Benjamin HITT Rev. and Nancy Curnal, on 9 Mar 1833 at Fauquier County, Virginia. Bond issued 27 February 1833; the marriage bond identifies Ansylany as a daughter of Arthur Gladstone; bondsman. She was buried at Old Pulaski Cemetery, Williams County, Ohio.
