Facts and Events
Ann Reid was baptised on 12th February 1837 at Monasterevin in County Kildare, daughter of Mary Reid, formerly Dennan, and her husband Michael Reid, a mason. During the 1850s several of the family left Ireland and moved to New York, although not all at the same time. Ann's brother Joseph and sister Theresa emigrated first, with Ann, her younger siblings Agnes and Patrick and her mother Mary (who appears to have been a widow by this point) all emigrating around 1854. They appear in the 1855 census in New York, with Ann working as a cloak maker.
Ann married a William Gahan, but he died aged just 35 on 23rd July 1866. Ann was clearly pregnant when William died, having a daughter Elizabeth in the September. Ann was also the main beneficiary of William's will.
Ann appears in the 1870 census living with her daughter and her mother and sisters in New York. She has yet to be traced after 1870.
