He moved from Coffeville, Mississippi to Charleston in about 1840. He was the first Democratic surveyor of Delta County and held that office four years. He served as County Treasurer nine years and was in the mercantile business 20 years.

From Tennessee, officer in Company G 9th Texas Cavalry, Confederate Army, very distinguished record in Civil War.
