Wife and Mother Taken By Death Angel Friday Mrs. Percy J. Brown of Near Dow City Dies After Operation for Appendicitis Dow City, April 9, 1928

This week we are called upon to report the death of a young mother, one who has spent practically all of her life in Crawford county.

Bertha Inez, eldest daughter of Thomas and Myra Templar Munsey, was born June 24, 1892, at Arion, Iowas, and departed this life at Denison, Iowa, April 6, 1928, being at the time of her death, 35 years, 9 months and 12 days of age.
When about eight years of age, she, with her parents, moved from the farm near Airon to Dow City, and two years later moved to Deloit, where they lived a number of years, and then returned to Dow City.
On December 1, 1920, at Denison, Iowa, she was united in marriage to Percy J. Brown of Syracuse, New York. This union was blessed with five children, Thomas Edward, who died in infancy, Robert Dumond, William LeRoy, Ralp Jay and Ruth Josephine, being left with the husband to mourn the loss of a mother and companion. Besides her husband and children, she leaves one brother, Mr. Ben Wingrove, of Denison, and three sisters, Mrs. Florence Baber of Hooper, Neb., Mrs. Josephine Igou and Mrs. Clara Mae Brasel of Dow City.
In early youth the deceased joined the Latter Day Saint church at Deloit and maintained her membership in that church during her life time.
She was ever of a cheerful disposition, and life's trials never bore so heavily upon her that she could not see the silver lining to the cloud and she continually held an optomistic view of life. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother, and her family's interests always came first in her thoughts. She was also thoughtful of the welfare of her friends and neighbors, and was always ready and willing to help anyone in time of need. Her passing will be sincerly mourned by all who were privileged to know her.
On Wednesday the deceased became seriously ill at her home in the country northwest of town and was rushed to the Denison hospital, where an operation for appendicitis was performed. It was not generally known of the seriousness of her condition and friends were shocked to hear of the passing of her life as above stated.
Funeral services were conducted in Bartcher's Fuenral home in Denison, Rev. William Welsh officiating, after which the body was brought to Dow City.
Her funeral was held at the L.D.S. church at this place on Monday afternoon at 2:30, being in charge of Elder C. W. Winey of Deloit, assisted by Elder Warren J. Oliver of Denison. Music was furnished by Misses Altha and Esther Cramer, Irene Riley and Mrs. D. R. Griffin. The floral contributions were many, which are always a symbol of sympathy and esteem. The burial took place at the Dow City cemetery. The arm of sympathy is by far too short at such times as this. God alone can comfort those bereaved.
