Shreveport, La. Fepruary 29, 1864 Dear Wife and Children I again take my pen in hand to let you know that I am well at present and I hope these few lines may reach you in due time and find you all in the enjoyment of good health and doing well I recieved your kind letters the 16 and 19 of this month both in one envelope sent by Mr. Johnson I have recieved four letters from you and may be ashured that I was glad to get them for I was geting afraid that I was not going to get any letters from home I was glad to hear that you was geting along as well as what you were and that our stock was doing well you said you wanted me to go before the board of Doctors and try to get a discharge Just let me say to you that there has been lots of men has gone before the bord that is worse off than I. am and they could not get a discharge they have to think that a man will die soon before this board will discharge him I would be as glad to be discharged as anybody could be but I know there is no chance for me now and as for being detailed to make wheels I dont think that can be done for I tell you it is a difficult matter to get a detail now to do anything though if you think you can get it I would except of it verry willingly I assure you but if you do under take it you had better get some one that knows all about it or you will fail I expect that I will stay here for some time yet Capt Stephen stopet here and tried to get us off but he failed they say they are going to keep us here as long as we will behave our selfs and obey orders we are all uniformed with Louisani grey I tell you we look nice when we are drilling
