Caroline had an illegitimate daughter named Ruth. Ruth's father is unknown. Ruth was adopted by Thomas and Elizabeth Van Stone.^S2 Caroline had an uncle Thomas who lived in Bay City, the same place as Caroline and Ruth. It is probable that he was the Thomas Van Stone who adopted her, but it is not known for sure.
