- ↑ Source:Deane, Samuel. History of Scituate (Massachusetts), p. 273, says, of Matthew the immigrant, father of this Matthew, that he had two sons, Matthew and Joseph, and that his son, Matthew, Jr., also had two sons Matthew and Joseph, and then proceeds to completely intermingle the various families until they are not recognizable. There is a birth record for only one child of "Matthew, Jr.", a son named Matthew, b. 1685 according to the record. The will of the grandmother mentions Matthew, the son of her son Matthew, but all the other grandchildren mentioned would appear to belong to her deceased son Joseph, a conclusion supported by the grandfather's will and by birth records. There is a deed in 1702 where Mathew Gannet Sr. and Mathew Gannet Jr. sell a farm to pay medical expenses for Mathew Gannet Jr. In another deed Matthew Gannett appears to sell an undivided share in a land grant that was his father's without any other sign of split ownership or siblings. Nothing is known about Matthew Jr.'s presumed wife. He left no will. There is no evidence of any other children.
