Cecilia was a teacher in the district schools of Jefferson Township of Allen County, Indiana.

Ike was a veteran of World War I.

In the 1930 Census, Elmer A., 35, and Cecilia R., 32, Oberley were living in Jefferson Township in Allen County, Indiana, with their children, Harold, 10, Gerald, 10, Donald, 8, Maybelle, 6, Marcelle, 6, Richard, 4 9/12, Doris Gene, 2 4/12, and Elmer J., 11/12.

In 1942, when Elmer registered for the draft for World War II, he was living in Zulu in Allen County, Indiana. He was 47 years old. His next of kin was his wife, Mrs. Elmer Oberley. He worked for himself at a garage in Zulu.

Ike's obituary reads, "ELMER OBERLY. Elmer (Ike) Oberly, 74, Monroeville, died at 11:40 a.m. yesterday in Parkview Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient two days. He had been in failing health three years. Born in Zulu, he operated the Zulu Garage for many years. Mr. Oberly was a veteran of World War I, a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Besancon, and American Legion Post 330, New Haven. Surviving are his wife, Cecelia; four sons, Gerald, Harold, Richard and Elmer, Monroeville; seven daughters, Miss Marcella Oberly, Mrs. May Belle Feasby, Mrs. Jeanette Balser, Mrs. Phyllis Alberding, Mrs. Mary Ann Walker, and Mrs. Carol Mills, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Doris Sephel, Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Edward and Russell, Monroeville; and 47 grandchildren. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Marquart Funeral Home, Monroeville, and at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, the Rev. Robert Traub officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7:30 p.m. today. Rosary services will be at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home." [Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Thursday 16 January 1969, pg. 3A]

Cecilia's obituary reads, "Cecilia R. Oberley, 93, of Zulu died yesterday at home. The Payne, Ohio, native formerly lived in rural New Haven and retired as a teacher at Jackson Township School. She was member of St. Louis Catholic Church, its rosary society and the Do Better Home Economics Club, and was the widow of Elmer A., Sr., who died in 1969. Surviving are daughters, Maybelle Feasby of Columbia City, Doris Sethel of Columbus, Ohio, and Jeanette Castle, Mary Ann Walker and Carol Mills, all of Fort Wayne; sons, Gerald of Fort Wayne, and Harold, Richard and Elmer, Jr., all of Monroeville; 50 grandchildren; and 57 great-grandchildren. Services are pending Monday in the church, with burial in the church cemetery. Calling is 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Marquart & Jacobs Funeral Home, Monroeville, with a vigil at 6 p.m. Sunday.
