CHARLES BUTT was born in Canada and grew up in Michigan, but he married LILLIE BELLE PARKE, daughter of ZENITH ARTHUR (ARTHUR) PARKE and OLIVE LULU LOCKWOOD, in 1909S1, S2 in Chicago. He was 20. It is unclear how he got to Chicago. He would live the rest of his life there. Just after they married, they appeared on the census of 1910 at 4636 Vincennes Avenue, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. They lived as lodgers in the same apartment building as Lillie's grandmother Francelia Brown Lockwood and her Aunt, Francelia's daughter Helen Lockwood. Charles and Lillie were the parents of eight children, five sons and three daughters.
Places Charles and Lillie lived over the years include:
- 1910 - 4636 Vincennes Avenue, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
- 1917 - Charles lived on 6 May 1917 at 1654 Burns, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. The Detroit address is from Charles WWI Draft Registration card. It is very curious. Charles was raised in Bay City Michigan, but all residence data from 1910 on has him in Chicago. His daughter Olive is born in Chicago six months later. Charles was a motorman, so perhaps he regularly traveled between Detroit and Chicago as part of his job.
- 1920 - 9238 Woodland Avenue, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois
- 1930 - 834 E 88th St, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was a clerk in a billiard hall in 1930.
- 1947 - 735 E 88th Place, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. This was formerly the home of Lillie's parents. It's the house she grew up in.
