The Wigton Walkers trace their descent from John Walker I and Jane McKnight of Wigton, Scotland. See Index for other Wigton Walkers, and Quick Wigton Walker Index for males in the first few generations. The primary source for this family, especially its history prior to about 1740, is Descendants of John Walker of Wigton Scotland, by Emma Siggins White, 1902

See also Wigton Walkers

White, 1902 laid out the outlines of the Wigton Walker family, showing a descendancy from John Walker I of Wigton Scotland. Several generations of genealogists have relied on White for their basic understanding of their Walker ancestry. Today we know that White incorporated several confusions into her work, and that not everyone in her descendancy truely descends from John Walker of Wigton. Nonetheless, White's lineages will probably dominate our understanding of the family for the foreseeable future. The following outlines the first four generations of the White Descendancy. It provides a useful organization device for those seeking information about their line, or wishing to add information to what's already here. Click on a link, and you will be taken to the article page about the person. You can then follow the descendancy further, depending on how much work has been done on the particular line. When you come to the end of a lineage, add to it if you can. Articles that have been created will appear as blue links. Articles that have not been created will appear in black. Note that some (most) articles exist only as "stubs".

Finally, in using this descendancy, keep in mind that this is the way Emma White presented the family lineage. DNA results call some of these relationships into question. When a concensus opinion emerges on how to interpret these results, the creation of another descendancy chart may be warranted. See Discussion of Wigton Walker YDNA Results for a treatment of what recent YDNA test data tells us about the relationships described in White, 1902
