My Great-grandfather Elmer Ellsworth Wells, was born in Steuben Co, New York, and with his parents, Alvah and Marietta (Smith) Wells moved to St Joseph Co, Indiana in 1866. There they raised 8 children and were successful business men in that area. They owned their own cabinet factory called A Well's and Son, and then it became Wells Manufacturing Co., located on St Joseph and Washington Streets. In 1912 they built a factory at 1701 So. Main St. that covered 2 to 3 acres and manufactured lumber for engravers and backing-lumber for electrotypers.
My Grandfather from the time he was 23 was the shop manager, then secretary of Wells Manufacturing Co. In 1945, along with his son-in-law, George Laure, they founded a plastics firm named, W-L Molding at 8212 Shaver Rd in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
