WeRelate:Family Tree Explorer

From WeRelate

The Family Tree Explorer (FTE) is a flash application that makes it easy to create and navigate family trees.

Getting started

  1. If you have already created pages in WeRelate for some of your ancestors, click on Open an existing tree. This gives you a chance to open your tree (probably called "Default"), which should contain the pages you created.
  2. If you haven't created any pages for your ancestors yet, click on Create a new tree. You will be asked to enter the name of the tree. You will then be asked if you have a GEDCOM file to import.
  1. If you answer Yes, you'll be taken to a screen where you can select the GEDCOM file to import. See Help:GEDCOM for more information.
  2. If you answer No, you'll be given a chance to enter the names of the first few generations of your ancestors. Enter as many or as few as you wish. Pages will be created for the people whose names you enter. You can then click on any person in the tree that will appear on the left-hand side of the screen to load their page on the right. Click on the Edit link at the top of the page on the right to enter more information about them.

Additional step-by step instructions for using the Family Tree Explorer can be found in the FTE tutorial.

Features

System requirements

The Family Tree Explorer requires the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player. The player can be downloaded free of charge here. The FTE also requires that you have not disabled javascript in your browser. If your system can't run Adobe Flash Player (most systems can), you can still create person and family pages. See the Person pages tutorial for more information.
