Next step: Review your GEDCOM [2 September 2011]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded herbertcubbinasc.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Balderstone/Balderson [22 May 2013]

Paula (Wongers), thank you for the reply to my updates in the werelate website for the Balderstone family. I have used the spelling of "Balderson" for the descendants of Christopher Balderstone b.1861 ( a brother to your relation Mary Ann), as there was a name change. I did not wish to make a change to the website but to enter an alternate name in the edit. I do not know the background of the name change, but have it confirmed in Electoral Rolls. My Grandmother was Lilian Balderson, who lived in the Mallee area of Meatian/Ultima and married William Hoinville a school teacher at Meatian. I notice that Mary Ann married George Pryke at Charlton in 1877. My father's maternal family O'Meara, came from Lake Marmal outside Charlton. My father's family Meehan came from Lalbert south of Swan Hill. I have a number of other additions to the site. I have included William John Balderson son of Christopher who died in France in WW1.

Dates [9 June 2014]

Hello, I noticed you had changed the date of birth and date of death for Hannah Bryan. The date of her birth was listed as "abt. 1700", and date of death was "bef. 1725", which is standard dating on WeRelate (and most genealogical websites) and there are thousannds of Person Pages with this same exact dating. You had changed the birth date to "1700" and added "APPROXIMATE" in the description field, and the date of death to "1725" and added "BEFORE THIS DATE" in the description field, which is not in alignment with the WeRelate Date Conventions. We'd ask that you please keep dates in the previous format on other Person and Family Pages on WeRelate.

Thanks much,

Jim Volunteer Administrator WeRelate--Delijim 13:01, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Person:Living Winduss (1). No need to tidy any livings, unless you can prove that they are in fact dead (in which case, the data needs to be entered). Just tag them for speedy deletion.--Daniel Maxwell 09:58, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I had kind of given up after reading one of the discussions about how people are using 'Living' people as a type of connector.--Wongers 10:03, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Malton, North Riding of Yorkshire [14 August 2014]

Hi

I have added "New Malton" as a redirect to Malton--that way anyone using it will have the entry link up immediately. Alternative names don't automatically link in.

Who are your ancestors who lived in Malton? My gg grandfather and gg grandmother were born in Swinton and Settrington. Malton is within 5 miles of each village.

--Goldenoldie 07:04, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

My connection to Malton is tenuous - I was tidying the spouse page of a far distant cousin - and found myself tidying up that particular tree back a few generations for the rest of the evening (it was obviously a GEDCOM import). It was a union between a Harrison and Gransby from Malton; I found the different references to the town confusing and began reading more about it to try and make some sense of it.--Wongers 07:45, 14 August 2014 (UTC)

I am searching for pages to be nominated as a featured page and at the moment I am trying to find some Australian ones. I am wondering if you have any which you are particularly proud of. Thanks Jeffrey--JeffreyRLehrer 20:33, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi! I have many interesting ancestors but alas have been concentrating on getting references attached and have not attempted to begin any biographical-style writing on the pages. One example would be the somewhat nasty tale of Christopher Balderstone and his wife Maria. Chris' father was a convict who was sent to Australia, and his children followed some years later. There is quite a lot of information that I'm yet to confirm but the tale of his father and their life in England, and what came after in Australia, would make for great reading I think.

I will keep an eye on Australian pages and will let you know if there is anything worthy.--Wongers 23:45, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Aston, Oxfordshire [19 January 2016]

Hi Where did I come from? I have been working on updating the information on the WR places database for the UK. The task started two years ago, and I have just started on Oxfordshire. I live in Buckinghamshire (next door to Oxon), and know the eastern part of it fairly well, but beyond Oxford I admit to being as ignorant as I am about counties I haven't travelled to very often.

If you have glanced at any of the county place pages, you will know just how many settlements there can be in a county. Since the parish has been the local centre for entering registrations either through church or civil facilities, I have been attempting to reduce the quantity of data by merging villages into their parishes as they were in 1900--the year that WeRelate likes to establish as their marker point.

Wikipedia's explanation of the parish history for Aston and Cote which I have (almost) copied word for word to its WR Place-page goes through all the changes that happened to the name of the parish since 1866. I have linked the two original settlements plus the two new names to the place page by means of "redirects". This means if you write "Aston, Oxfordshire, England" as the place where something happened, it will come up as you wrote it on the completed Person page, but when you look at the Edit page it will say "Aston and Cote, Oxfordshire, England|Aston, Oxfordshire, England". Your person or family will be listed on the Aston and Cote "What links here" page along with anyone else linked to the parish.

This works even if the place has been transferred at some time in history from one county to another (or even one country to another)--provided the "Also located in" field is filled in. Once you get the hang of it, it's a fantastic bit of software writing--something I am not responsible for.

I hope you have followed this. /cheers, Pat. --Goldenoldie 09:58, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Next step: Review your GEDCOM [3 December 2016]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Traeger.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two months to give you time to review it. If your GEDCOM does not contain at least one date and place for each person, preferably with at least one primary or secondary source it will possibly be rejected, See the help pages for how you should prepare your GEDCOM prior to uploading.

Death before birth [22 October 2021]

Hi

The death year 1817 for Person:William Weston (31) is clearly wrong, but I can't find what the correct year should be. Can you fix it? Thanks--DataAnalyst 12:29, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

Source:Australia. World War I Service Records, 1914-1920 [13 December 2021]

You recently added this source. Suggesting that you add a link to the resource, even if it is only available to Ancestry.com subscribers - there are lots of those here (not me, though). Thanks for considering this. --ceyockey 03:54, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

Aye - have it open in a tab to make sure I get to it (work came and crunched on me while I was on a roll). Thanks for the reminder.: -- wongers 02:03, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Pages for living people [26 December 2021]

Hi

You are probably aware that WeRelate doesn't allow pages for living people, which it defines as anyone born in the last 110 years for whom there is no death date. We are getting more rigorous about enforcing this policy. If you have death dates for any of the people below, please enter them. Otherwise, their pages will be deleted in about a month. Please let me know if you need more time. Thanks

Person:Frank Lewry (1)
Person:Jack Lewry (1)
Person:Robert Park (8)
Person:Louis Brock (1)

In addition, to ensure there are no pages for living people, WeRelate no longer allows trees without any dates. The pages below are either isolated people without dates or in small trees without dates. If you have dates for these people, please enter them. Pages without dates will be deleted in about a month (or you can deleted them yourself). Please let me know if you need more time. Thanks--DataAnalyst 14:58, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

Takely, Essex [30 December 2021]

The first thing I noticed by looking up Takely in the list of Essex places was that it followed another place named Takeley. The co-ordinates of both are the same and Takeley appears to be dominant, so Takely has been redirected to Takeley. I suggest you make changes on the Person pages linked to Takely. BTW, it appears that Takely is a parish, not just a village. It is located as D24 on the map of Dunmow Rural District.--Goldenoldie 22:41, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Tracing back immigrants to Australia [24 January 2022]

It is strange you raised this topic on the same day as I entered a short article on the village and parish of Tolpuddle in Dorset, England. I was surprised to see that no one had decided to provide information on the 6 Tolpuddle martyrs who were shipped from there to Australia in 1833. I have not looked into the story far enough to know their names, but I'm sure they are listed somewhere--either here in England or in Australia.

Perhaps you would like to take on discovering these six men and their families (before and after Australia) as a project. Baptisms, marriages and burials for Tolpuddle are listed in Ancestry just as they are for the rest of Dorset.

Regards, Pat. --Goldenoldie 20:33, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
