Place names [1 October 2007]

Hi, thanks so much for participating! I am an admin for WeRelate. Its my job to help people get the most out of WeRelate. You may be wondering your your place names with the "?'s" are red links. Generally a red link means that this place is not in the place index. In this case the computer thinks the "United States?" is a different place from the plain ole "United States." This isn't bad, it just means that that your event will not show up on the pedigree map or be indexed in a place category.

Just FYI, if you are entering a well known place and get a red link, chances are it's in the index but listed differently. Type in the town, county, or district followed by a comma. Wait a few moments and a list of all the possible places in the index will drop down. Many places change their names even countries, these renamed places will appear at top of the list. Scroll down to your place and click on it. If your place is not on the list, type in Town, County, Country (do not use abbreviations) and save the page. When you click on the red link you can create a new place page for that place. If you include the latitude and longitude or if it is contained in a county or country already in the system, it will appear on your pedigree map. Let me know if you need any help. :)--sq 23:40, 1 October 2007 (EDT)

Hi Fellow searcher

I am Merlyn Chaffin the great grandson of William Franklin, and Mary Abigail Hawkins Barnhart. In looking at your site I see where you have her birth date as 1856. I am sending you a copy of her obit showing where I have 1858.

!OBITUARY: source; Joliet Journal Friday, Aug 28, 1908

! A SAD DEATH

! Mrs. Mary E, Barnhart, of Bridger, who was paying her sister, Mrs. C. Christopherson of

this place, a visit, was taken very ill a few days ago, and on Tuesday of this week she died,
and her remains were laid to rest the following day in the Rockvale cemetery.
Mrs. Barnhart was born in Utah, December 20, 1858. She leaves ten children, beside

Person and Family page titles [18 January 2010]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin here at WeRelate. I noticed that you have many pages that have dashes in the title (they can be found from this search). These dashes cause problems for our search and category functions. Please take some time to rename these pages, substituting Unknown for the dashes, and edit the given and surname fields as appropriate. Let me know if you have any questions, thank you!--Jennifer (JBS66) 15:30, 18 January 2010 (EST)

Elizabeth Hawkins [14 March 2010]

I'm new to this so not sure I'm doing this right but I'll try. You are involved in record for Elizabeth Hawkins born about 1666 in Boston. I have an Elizabeth Hawkins in my family tree who married Benjamin Turner on 14 Apr 1692 in Scituate, MA. The Mayflower Society has records (MFIP Brewster 29) of the marriage and that Elizabet lived to about 1740-1744 and that she was from Boston. Not sure what I should do now. Can we assume they are same person? Ages work out right (would have been married at age ~28) and none of info conflicts (but none confirms either)--Sparrell 22:19, 13 March 2010 (EST)

Duplicate families [3 December 2011]

Hi Tombwhisperz,

When you have a moment, please take a look at your Duplicates List by going to My Relate>Show Duplicates. It’s a good idea to check this list on a regular basis. There are a few families there that are potential matches. We have an ongoing site-wide project to merge duplicates, but it is always better if somebody familiar with the families can make the merge. Here is our help page on merging. If you have any questions, just let me know. Thanks! --Jennifer (JBS66) 07:48, 3 December 2011 (EST)

Person/Family page titles [15 June 2012]

Hello Tombwhisperz, I noticed that you renamed a few pages to titles such as "Augusta Shultus 1st wife of Harlon Bruce Hawkins (2)".

Please note that WeRelate's convention for titling Person pages is Firstname Lastname only. For Family pages, the convention is still Firstname Lastname with the husband's name first and the wife's name second (using the maiden name of the wife). Please do not include any additional information, including middle names, in page titles. You can include this information when Editing a page. Also, when renaming pages, you do not need to include the index number at the end of the title - the software will assign this automatically.

I renamed a few of your pages to follow this convention such as Person:Augusta Shultus (1) and Family:Harlon Hawkins and Augusta Shultus (1). If you have any questions, just let me know. Thank you, --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:10, 15 June 2012 (EDT)

Hazard Research [9 February 2016]

Hi, This is Vicki (Hazard) Batterton and I would like to find out about your linking of William Howard Hazard b. 2 Nov 1770 to the Find-A-Grave page for my 4xGr Grandfather William Hazard b. abt 1770 & died 27 March 1837. I have been researching for years and always suspected that these two were connected but have never found the proof I needed to actually lay claim to William Howard Hazard. ALSO .... I've been trying to find the proof that my 4xGr Grandmother Lucinda's maiden name was Clark. Can you help me identify the info to make that connection?

Most cordially, Vicki--IckyVicki 04:04, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Timothy Clark and Marietta Sheltus [2 February 2018]

Hi, I think I've spoken with you before. I'm researching Timothy Clark of Collins, Erie, NY. You list his marriage to Marietta Sheltus as Oct. 15, 1814 in Charleston, Montgomery, NY. I wonder what the source of this date and location was, if you know. I think they probably weren't married in Charleston, and likely only lived there for a year or so, no earlier than Dec. 10, 1814 until about March 1816.

I have located Timothy Clark's War of 1812 records, and from them I have learned that he enlisted in the NY militia on Sept. 8, 1814 in Franklin, Delaware, NY, taking the place of someone named Williams who had been drafted. His regiment marched to Catskill, where they boarded a sloop for Brooklyn Heights. They spent about a week there before moving to Camp Greenwich in Manhattan in mid-September, where they served until they were discharged in December. This means that Timothy Clark would have been in New York City, not Charleston, in Oct. 1814. In fact, his second enlistment period began on Oct. 8, 1814, as seen from his payroll record. I have seen elsewhere that someone gave their marriage date as Oct. 15, 1815, which would have made Marietta 5 months pregnant with Sally at the time of the marriage. If you know for sure that they were married Oct. 15, 1814, this may place the marriage (and Marietta's family) in New York City.

I don't know if you are descended from them, but I've discovered that another private in his company, George W. Benedict, came from Burlington, Otsego, NY, which means that the entire company didn't come just from Franklin. There was a Perry Clark who lived in Plainfield, Otsego, NY who had a son between 16-26 in 1810 (Timothy Clark was 16 in 1810 and had a son named Perry Clark). There was also at least one Williams family in Plainfield with a male 16-26 in the household in 1810.

Please let me know if you have a source for the marriage. My email is stevelaurette@gmail.com.

Thanks, Steve Laurette
