Welcome

Welcome to WeRelate, your virtual genealogical community. We're glad you have joined us. At WeRelate you can easily create ancestor webpages, connect with cousins and other genealogists, and find new information.

Create Webpages

The first thing to do is launch Family Tree Explorer, then select File in the Family Tree Explorer menu and give your family tree a name. You can either upload your GEDCOM or create person and family pages one at a time. To upload your GEDCOM, select File in the Family Tree Explorer menu and then click on Import and choose the GEDCOM file to import. The system will create a editable web page for each person and family in your GEDCOM. To create a page manually, select Add in the Family Tree Explorer menu and click on Add new person; enter the given (first name) and surname (last name), select Add, then fill in the blanks and save.

The Family Tree Explorer is a Flash application and will need to use some space in your computer to cache the files. That's computer talk for "If you store some ancestor page information on your computer, you will be able to view more pages faster. Otherwise, the system has to fetch each page every time you edit or look at it. This caching is not permanent and only lasts as long as you are at WeRelate each time.

Connect with other genealogists

You should always sign in when you are editing or adding pages. Use the signature button to sign your work (the swiggle, second from the right, above the edit box). That way others with similar interests can find you. If you click on the blue user name on any page, you will go to that person's home page. You can leave a message on his/her Discussion page. The Discussion page button is in the light green second level menu bar above.

COUCH GEDCOM? [18 August 2008]

Hi Couches,

Is it possible to obtain a GEDCOM of the Simon COUCH/Mary Francis Andrews descendants/ancestors? The information I have is not well-documented.

Thanks, Doug Couch (California Couches of Arkansas/Illinois Couches, etc.) couchdouglas@aol.com 661-942-3025--Dougcouch 00:43, 18 August 2008 (EDT)

Hi and Thanks from Doug Couch [10 October 2008]

Hi,

I am assuming by the "TheCouches" user ID, that this is Darren Couch and family. If so, I received an email copy from you in 2005, around the time I discovered I was a descendant of the Simon Couch line. In that email, you mentioned the Couch-Higgins-Mapes Historical Association...which I had no idea about. Just this year, I chanced on a page of the Higgins-Mapes family pages, and realized the connections somewhat.

The email you sent was a brief lineage of the descendants of James Ladow Couch of Joel Bostwick Couch (sent by you to JCouch9132@aol.com). I added that information in today. haha At the time, you spoke of Ebenezer Jr's gravestone photos to be taken. Are those photos available? Photos and documents are woefully lacking in my entire database. My putting it here on WeRelate has been a blessing, where people are documenting and redirecting pages, etc. I have not availed myself of that data as yet, but expect to after the GEDCOM download feature is made available.

There are many Couch lines available which I do not have, and I add a little here and there, but am not trying to be comprehensive all that far beyond my own lines. Still, I am interested, and may collect lines who are related, even if not entering them in right now. Perhaps my children or grandchildren will opt to enter them if I collect them now and make them available to them on CD/DVD, etc.

The older link I had to your tree at worldconnect was no longer available.

Thanks for your info...

Giles Smith and Mary Wheeler [26 November 2008]

The records I obtained originally from Bill Couch at couchgenweb, included the marriage of Giles Smith and Mary Wheeler. Giles' parents were given as Thomas Smith and Frances Sanford (unless I've inadvertently changed them).

Now it seems more likely that Giles is the son of (Capt.) Henry Smith and Anne Pynchon. While this lineage is at least more plausible date-wise, I have no documentation for the earlier lineage or this one. Both need research.

Mary's lineage, given as daughter of Thomas Wheeler and Ann Halsey appear to be incorrect, either in lineage or in given dates. If the dates given are assumed correct, for Mary to be the daughter of Thomas and Ann, her mother Ann would have been 10 years old at her birth, and would have been married (1623) to Thomas when she was 8 years old. Perhaps this is as simple as an incorrect date being passed down to us. Again the lineage needs research.

Do you know of any documentation regarding Giles' and Mary's ancestor lineages?

Thanks, Doug Couch --Dougcouch 19:17, 25 November 2008 (EST)

Eunice Higgins Strong [18 June 2010]

It seems that we may be related through Eunice Higgins (b. 1788 Fairfield, CT). She married Elisha Strong about 1805 in New York. Do you have a birth record for her or any primary source documents that confirm her parents as George Higgins and Patience Mapes?

Thank you for any information,

Virginia Strong Reynolds--Vinnielue 23:43, 17 June 2010 (EDT)
