Welcome

Welcome to WeRelate, your virtual genealogical community. We're glad you have joined us. At WeRelate you can easily create ancestor webpages, connect with cousins and other genealogists, and find new information.

Create Webpages

The first thing to do is launch Family Tree Explorer, then select File in the Family Tree Explorer menu and give your family tree a name. You can either upload your GEDCOM or create person and family pages one at a time. To upload your GEDCOM, select File in the Family Tree Explorer menu and then click on Import and choose the GEDCOM file to import. The system will create a editable web page for each person and family in your GEDCOM. To create a page manually, select Add in the Family Tree Explorer menu and click on Add new person; enter the given (first name) and surname (last name), select Add, then fill in the blanks and save.

The Family Tree Explorer is a Flash application and will need to use some space in your computer to cache the files. That's computer talk for "If you store some ancestor page information on your computer, you will be able to view more pages faster. Otherwise, the system has to fetch each page every time you edit or look at it. This would make navigating your tree very slow.

Connect with other genealogists

You should always sign in when you are editing or adding pages. Use the signature button to sign your work (the swiggle, second from the right, above the edit box). That way others with similar interests can find you. If you click on the blue user name on any page, you will go to that person's home page. You can leave a message on his/her Discussion page. The Discussion page button is in the light green second level menu bar above.

Error importing smithrhodes.ged

We had an error while attempting to import smithrhodes.ged. This is most likely our fault. We will review the error and should have your pages ready tomorrow (or Monday if tomorrow falls on a weekend). There is no need to re-import your GEDCOM file.

smithrhodes040107.ged is being held for review

The pages from "smithrhodes040107.ged" have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate. Please be patient while we take a look at your GEDCOM. If it turns out that the people in smithrhodes040107.ged are different from people you have imported previously, your pages will be generated right after the review, which should happen tomorrow (or Monday if tomorrow falls on a weekend).

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in smithrhodes040107.ged, we need to ask for your patience. We don't at present have a way to auto-merge people from multiple GEDCOM submissions, so if smithrhodes040107.ged includes people you have previously imported, importing smithrhodes040107.ged will create duplicate pages that you will have to merge later by hand. In the near future we will allow you to delete the pages generated by your previous GEDCOM submission and start over with a new GEDCOM. Until then please be patient. We will notify you as soon as deleting pages is available.

Offer of assistance [28 February 2009]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin here at WeRelate. It appears that you may be having a bit of trouble with one of your pages Family:Zachary Garison and Kari Matson (1). I've noticed that you have created and deleted connecting pages a few times today. If I can answer any questions, please feel free to ask!

On another note, I was wondering if these pages reference living people? WeRelate's policy is that no identifying information should be entered for living people, and I ask because I don't see dates of death on these pages. Please see Portal:Person (What About Living People?) or help page for additional information.

Again, please let me know if I can be of help.--Jennifer (JBS66) 12:28, 28 February 2009 (EST)

Yep, I haven't "edited" pages in quite a while so it took me a few tries to add a wife and child for Zachary. I hope I have it right now. My "user friendly" level must be lower than the pages instructions.--Ssmith525 17:18, 28 February 2009 (EST)

Thanks for response [20 July 2010]

Thanks for responding to my message, unfortunately I don't remember what it was & none of the links sent me show it. This is a very unfriendly user site as far as I am concerned. I got several responses yesterday for other messages I left & they all indicated they were being moved or something?? Anyway thanks, Jim.--Jim LaLone 09:11, 20 July 2010 (EDT)

Una Hines Smith [26 October 2010]

I saw your information on the family of Una Hines and Alison Dale Smith. I'm checking to see if you might be related. Una was my 1st cousin, 3 times removed. She was my great grandma's first cousin.--Eskew 06:01, 26 October 2010 (EDT)

Alison Dale Smith [15 March 2011]

I'm not sure if I'm responding the correct way on these message boards. Hopefully you get my message and sorry for the late response. I haven't checked my messages in a long time. Do you happen to have any pictures of Alison Dale Smith and his wife Una Anne Hines Smith and possibly a picture of their kids? I would love to see a pic of Una and her family. I have pics of her sister Ina and her brothers Billy and Elmer.

Thanks a lot.--Eskew 16:59, 13 March 2011 (EDT)

Hello again,

I was checking to see if you got my emails. I sent you pics of Una's brothers and sister. Let me know if you didn't get them and I'll re-send them. My email is eskewryder@hotmail.com. I got one email from you about Ina's name but I don't know if your other email got blocked or not.--Eskew 17:39, 15 March 2011 (EDT)

Mary Ann Beckerdite [6 July 2011]

Thanks for putting information about Mary Ann Beckerdite on the web. I'm wondering how you found out where she was buried and her birthdate.

I think the last name was probably Bickerdike--found on her marriage certificate. I can't find a birth record for her or her husband, but I'm still looking. I recently found a sister for Joseph Musgrave--Eliza who married a Reuben Ross. I still need to do more research to be absolutely sure, but it's very probable.

Thanks for your help.

Karen Greenwell--Greenwellk 10:50, 6 July 2011 (EDT)

It's been a long time since I've worked on the Musgrave line. When I first started I wasn't exact about recording sources. I looked back in my files and didn't find my sources for Mary Ann Bickerdike, or however her name was spelled. I'm sure I had some written county history notes or something similar for my source. I know now how important it is to share sources and will keep looking.--Ssmith525 12:07, 6 July 2011 (EDT)
