Next step: Review your GEDCOM [4 May 2011]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Pam's first.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Pamsroots#1.ged [13 May 2011]

Hi Pam, I took a look at your recent gedcom. I see there are a couple of warnings/alerts such as burial more than 30 days after death and spouses with the same surname. In the case of George Gilliam Hudson Westbrook and Mrs. Westbrook, the convention when a wife's surname is unknown is to either leave the field blank, or enter Unknown (rather than Mrs and her husband's surname). I'll return the file to user review so you can take a look at these. The best option is to fix any errors in your home software and then upload another gedcom. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you, --Jennifer (JBS66) 13:02, 13 May 2011 (EDT)

I saw your message on my talk page. I went ahead and sent the file through to import. After the file has imported you can go to the pages to correct the three errors. To fix the George Westbrook and Mrs. Westbrook family page that will be created, you will need to rename both the Family page and Mrs. Westbrook's page by clicking on Rename from the left menu. Let me know if you have any further questions. --Jennifer (JBS66) 15:34, 13 May 2011 (EDT)

Hi. [23 December 2013]

My name is Robert Timothy Hawkins. I am the son of George Beard Hawkins and Jincy Ann Kyzar (maiden name). I'm looking for information related to my ancestry, obviously, but I don't know what I'm doing on this site. You can find me on Facebook at: www(dot)facebook(dot)com/tim.hawkins.967. Please add me if you find this message, and have information that may be of benefit to me. Sadly I am out of touch of many members of my family and do not know where to begin looking for them.

Thanks,

Tim--Levontaun 05:03, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
