Next step: Review your GEDCOM [12 May 2014]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded export.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Dutch source citations [12 May 2014]

I wanted to follow up on an item relating to Dutch records. In the source citation, I notice that you are adding a link to AlleGroningers. However, if the link were to fail, the citation does not provide enough information for another user to find the source. Also, AG is not the only place to find the Burgerlijke Stand or DTB records (WieWasWie or FamilySearch being two others).

I edited Family:Jelle Wouthuis and Klaaske Smit (1) to show how a citation with more details would look for a marriage. For a birth you can put Geboorte in the Record name field or Overlijden for a death. Most of our Dutch users don't put a link to AG or WWW because having the year and akte# are enough for a researcher to find the source. Some users do put in some details from the citation though, like on this page. --Jennifer (JBS66) 18:29, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Jennifer Thanks, I really appreciate your input. It was the pictures of the handwritten documents "actes" that I wanted to link to, but you are right, the links are not reliable. I guess it will save me a lot of time to leave them off!--MWalker 19:20, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Needs more data [15 May 2014]

Hi, I realize this is probably a test file, however I can import any file until the majority of the people have at least one date and place. Please fill in that information and resubmit. I will be glad to import the file.--sq 23:18, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Solveig

You can delete the file, I already have Jan Wouthuis. I wanted to add his parents using a GEDcom that I got from AlleGroningers.nl, but as Jennifer said, those GEDcoms are unreliable.

Thanks for your time!--MWalker 07:36, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
