Titles for Person pages [12 July 2008]

Hi Jessica,

I am an administrator for WeRelate. Your pages are great; thanks for contributing. I will be making a few minor edits to the titles of your pages. I hope you don't mind. We are hoping to optimize the match/merge function (coming soon).

This is a section from the Help:Person pages tutorial.

Enter the first given name and surname of the person you want to create. Enter only the surname in the surname field. Do not enter a number. See person index numbers. If the surname is not known either leave the surname field blank or type in Unknown. Do not enter other information such as suffixes, prefixes, titles, nick or middle name(s). For example, to create a page for Captain Robert Harold Townsend III, enter "Robert" as the given name and "Townsend" as the surname. There will be an opportunity to enter the other information later. Because of names such as "St. John," "de la Vega," and "Von Monfrans," the match/merge function(coming soon) considers all words after the first space as the surname.

Thanks. --Beth 10:21, 12 July 2008 (EDT)

Hey! [5 December 2011]

Hey Jess,

I've been poking around on the web to find info for a family tree. I guess, having Samuel now has given me motivation. That, and I'm home now so I need a project. Anyway, I found some of the info that you put on this site. I started something of my own on Ancestry.com. do you have anything on that site? How can I link to your tree so I don't have to repeat what you did?

Anyway, good to see your good work!

Next step: Review your GEDCOM [8 March 2014]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Mounts Well Palmer Bagley March 2014.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

‎Mounts Wells Palmer Bagley March 2014.ged [12 March 2014]

It is good to see your return to WeRelate after so many years. A few things have changed on WeRelate in that time frame, though enumerating them all would be a challenge, so only GEDCOM review changes are the focus of this message. The GEDCOM you submitted is needing a little more work.

Please be so kind as to go though the Warnings tab and correct what issues you are able to correct which are presented there. To correct a problem, click on the Warnings tab then click on a specific error. The person page on which the error occurs will appear in the bottom pane of the Review screen. Directly below the individual's (or family's) name is an Edit option. Click on that link and you will be able to make what changes are necessary, then scroll to the bottom of the page and select the Save Page button. The Warnings tab will display another error for the error which was just correct, even after correcting the problem. You can ignore this secondary warning. It will disappear after the file is reloaded. Unfortunately, the original error, while fixed, will not disappear. It is a quirk of the Review page and will hopefully be remedied in a future update.

Also, please make an attempt at matching as many of the sources on the Sources tab as possible. Some of the sources have been matched for you as an example. It is understood that not all sources, especially specific death certificates, will have global source pages. These may be left as they are and will be created as MySource pages.

Completing these tasks would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or comments, please respond here. Thank you!--Khaentlahn 15:07, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome back to WeRelate.

I've tried to fix as many as the warnings as I could. I have quite a few left that look like errors, but they aren't, and I'll include a list at the end of this message as to what's going on with those. I've spent a lot of time staring at the data for these people. I have Thoughts. :-)

I have tried to match up quite a few of the sources. I have a lot of sources, and I'd eventually like to match up the source naming convention I'm using in my software with the source naming convention in WeRelate. But I'm not there yet, so I haven't matched up nearly as many sources as I'd like.

Okay, the list of errors! My apologies if there's a better way to communicate this information:

As far as I know, Fannie Murphy really was 47 when her son Leonard was born and 48 when her son Tom was born.

The event occurring more than a year after Evan Baker’s death is the selling of his property, so that’s not a mistake.

I’m also skeptical that Priscilla Daniel had Jane Daniel at 50, but I don’t have any other mother candidates. She may have been a granddaughter, but she lived with Natha and Priscilla Daniel from childhood through to adulthood.

Elizabeth Davis’s residence is occurring before her birth because I’m not sure which piece of information to accept as true. Elizabeth’s family claimed she was born in Greenbrier, West Virginia in 1819. The tax records have her parents in Washington County, Tennessee from 1817 to 1827. I suspect Elizabeth’s family got her either birth place or her birth date wrong, but I’m not sure.

Edna P. Mounts’s birth did occur six years before the marriage of her parents, George and Mary. I’ve suspected that she had a different father, but based on all other records, George claims Edna as his daughter.

As far as I know, Margaret Perry’s birth did occur before her marriage.

Thornton Perry was indeed 67 when his son Oliver was born.

As far as I know, Cynthia Pratt was 48 when she had her daughter Mollie Perry.

I’m not sure when Daisy Buckner married her third husband, but I know it was between 1950, when she was 50, and 1980, when she was 80. I have it listed as “before 1980”, so I guess the warning calculator is interpreting that as the marriage actually occurring in 1980.

As far as I know, Hannah Davis was 46 when Malinda Tull was born.

The records for John J. Walker and his unknown wife are from an 1830 census, so I’ve got a big possible age range there. She could have been anywhere between and 36 and 50 when her two youngest children were born.--Jessica 04:10, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
