Next step: Review your GEDCOM [12 November 2013]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Warren Family Tree.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Person:John Buchanan (105) [15 November 2013]

Hi

I'm one of those who have previously worked on the page for John (105), so the system let me know when you added new information through the GedCom upload process. In looking over your additions, I saw your reference to his death at Cherry Bottom Plantation. I wasn't particularly aware that this was the name of his property at Buchanan VA, but its plausible that he died there, and seems to agree with the historic marker currently referenced on the page. I've added a bit of a note to explain the circumstances. Its probably not so much an alternative POD, but a clarification. Eventually, we'll need a better source for this bit of information, though its particularly plausible.

Some of the other supporting documentation, however, probably does not work well for this person. There are a variety of references using data out of Ancestry's system. I've checked those as far as possible, and concluded that they don't particularly seem to apply to this particular John BUchannan. For example, the references to John Buchanan in Prince William County probably refer to someone else. If you've got a basis for thinking he actually rented property in Prince William, that would be good to know. But just finding the name "John BUchanan" in a source referencing Prince William doesn't establish the that record is for the John BUchanan in Old Augusta. Similar argumentation for the removal of some of the other sources you provided.

In anycase, If you've got a good reasoned argument for adding those things back in, I'd certainly like to see a discussion of it.

Thanks

Ravenkill [23 November 2013]

Hi

It is nice to see someone working on some of the same pages I am. I am having a little trouble following some of the changes related to a merge you made. You seem to have merged Ravenkil or Rauanchil filius Raghanald with Richard FitzEustace, and in the process deleted all the sources referring to Ravenkil. I am not quite following what happened there or why. The great English medievalist William Farrer, in his notes on the Lancashire Chartulary, says that he was "possibly father of Roger, son of Ravenkil, a thane living temp. Stephen and Henry II, who was the father of Richard, a son of Roger of Woodplumpton, who founded Lytham Priory circa 1189-1194." The standard Victoria County History of Lancashire, (Vol.3, sub Bootle) also discusses this family and their relation to the Woodplumpton property. I don't see any mention of this family or property in Cawley's notes on Richard fitzEustace. And on Werelate now, they seem to have been disappeared. Could you give an explanation of your reasoning for the merge/deletion? I must be missing something.--Werebear 14:01, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
