Date formats [15 August 2013]

Hello, I noticed that you are entering dates such as 13111913 and 01311988. WR's date convention is Date Month Year (ie, 31 Jan 1988). This format helps to avoid confusion for other users. You can find the pages that you have currently added that may need to be edited here. If you have any questions, just let me know. --Jennifer (JBS66) 10:43, 15 August 2013 (EDT)

Request [16 August 2013]

Regarding your request for help on the support page, could you provide some more information about what you are trying to do? Thanks AndrewRT 14:30, 16 August 2013 (EDT)

Rockwood family [22 August 2013]

Hi, Diann

I got your message about the Rockwood family, and thank you for being willing to add more information. Unfortunately, they are not part of my family. One of the things I do at WeRelate is check for duplicate entries for the same people and merge them onto the same page. So that is why I merged the two pages for Nathaniel Rockwood and Margaret Phipps.

One of the reasons to avoid duplicate pages is so that everyone who is researching that person and family can work together, or at least add their information to what is already available. This makes it easier to do new research, and also helps to make sure that any problems can be sorted out.

When you enter a new person on WeRelate, you should add as much information about date and place of birth (and date and place of death) as possible on the Add Person page. Then, when you click Next, be sure to look to see if there is already a page for that person. If there is, you don't need to add a page, just click on the page that already exists and add any new information. If you don't have new information, you can still click on Watch so that you will be told about any changes to that page.

One of the other things you can do, when you are looking at a Person page on WeRelate is to follow the links to other family members by clicking on a name that appears in blue. Then, if you have information you want to add to that Person's page, you can edit it, rather than to add a new page.

I see you have added some new pages for the Rockwood family, but they seem to be for pages that already exist. I will go ahead an merge your pages with the ones that already exist so that you don't have to.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Adding an update:

Diann, I merged several of the pages you recently added for the Rockwood family, and you are listed as "watching" those pages, so you will be able to see what other people have done, as well as any changes in the future.

There were three pages that I did not merge. The first is for Agnes Lovell. If you look at the Talk page for Agnes Unknown (429), you will see that there are problems with Agnes as Agnes Lovell. However, if you have information, from a better source than used by other people, that shows that her name really is Agnes Lovell, then you can add that information to the page for Agnes Unknown (429), or enter the discussion on the Talk page.

The other two pages that I did not merge are Robert Rockwood (1) and Elizabeth Bachler (1). There are no duplicate pages for these persons. (You are the first contributor to enter the information.) I'm guessing that they are the parents of Richard Rockwood (3). If you want to show that they are his parents (link them to him), there are several ways you can do that. One is to click on the Add Parents and Siblings link on the right hand side of Richard Rockwood's page and enter the information just as you would for adding a Person page. (Be sure to include a marriage date and place if you know them.) That will create a Family page, and on the Family Page you can click the Add Child link, enter Richard's name and information, then when you look for duplicates, click his page when you find it, and the computer will add him as a child of his parents.

I hope this makes sense. Again, if you have questions, please feel free to ask.

Rockwood family [24 August 2013]

Hi, Diann,

I got your message about your sources, but I can't really do your research for you, or do your editing. I did merge the pages as an extra bit of help, but that is all I can really do. Perhaps you have someone close to you who could help you do the work?

Also, there are Help pages available. You may find the ones on creating Person Pages and Family Pages most useful.

I can sometimes answer questions about how to do something on WeRelate, but I really can't do your work for you.
