Place names [15 September 2007]

Hi, thanks so much for participating! I am an admin for WeRelate. Its my job to help people get the most out of WeRelate. You may be wondering your your place names links are red. This means that this place is not in the place index. This isn't bad, it just means that that your event will not show up on the pedigree map or be indexed in a place category. If this is a well known place, chances are it's in the index but listed differently. Type in the town, county, or district followed by a comma. Wait a few moments and a list of all the possible places in the index will drop down. Many places change their names even countries, these renamed places will appear at top of the list. Scroll down to your place and click on it. If your place is not on the list, type in Town, County, Country (do not use abbreviations) and save the page. When you click on the red link you can create a new place page for that place. If you include the latitude and longitude or if it is contained in a county or country already in the system, it will appear on your pedigree map.--sq 13:37, 15 September 2007 (EDT)

Irene Perry [3 October 2007]

Hi there. I'm one of the admin volunteers here and while viewing new changes to the site, I noticed that a Living Parry had a death date and a spelling change to the surname, so I "renamed" the page to Irene Perry per the info given. Afterwards, I then noticed that an Irene Perry with the same info already existed, creating an alternate spouse on her family page. I'm supposing that one of the Irene Perrys should be deleted or perhaps redirected, but I wanted to leave that up to you. If I've confused you or am not making any sense, just let me know. :) --Ronni 02:02, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Thanks for your help I am still working out to edit the Gedcom file I uploaded as there are mistakes. It would be good if one of those entries was deleted. John--Burgjoh 20:12, 2 October 2007 (EDT)

Gedcom Review [2 July 2009]

Thank you for submitting a gedcom to WeRelate. I have reviewed your file and I see that there are some problems flagged on the Warning tab about two of the families. This particular type of warning is often a flag that a family has been linked incorrectly. Did you know that you can now see and edit your pages from within the gedcom review? Just click on the name of the family or individual and the proposed page will display in the bottom half of the screen (you can slide the bar up to see better). Click edit and you can make changes as needed. There are also some individuals with no birth and death dates. Please click the Exclude box if any of these individuals are living. For privacy reasons, WeRelate does not create pages for living people. If you have any questions, just leave a message here and I will see it. --Judy (jlanoux) 11:56, 2 July 2009 (EDT)

We have 'connections" [28 July 2009]

Actually. we probably don't.

I was on your user page to discuss your watercooler comment (publicising in Australia) when I saw you had Kaye and Rusby in Birdsedge.

I have some Kayes from Hepworth (just north of Birdsedge) but the name is really common. I have a Rusby which is quite rare but my Rusby is a stepfather of a 'blood' relative.

On to The publicity think I was guaging interest in a UK "Portal" for WeRelate but I could see an Oz one being useful too, we should try to keep some consistence between them.

I guessed uf Oz or UK centric people cam lloking for pages on WeRelate they might decide (probably correctly) it is US dominated and go away.

I live in melbourne but because I emigrated myself, the bulf of my research is UK

My reasoning for portals would be to highlight what is on here, which could be added to and maybe form small special interest groups.

On your query about how to promote WeRelate - I sense the ideal recruit would be someone who wanted to put their research so far on the web, wanted a website has something extra compared to ancestry etc, but didnt know how to put a website together. I think a WIKI can be a bit daunting for a researcher who is used to thinking terms of trees but once you get going, you love it. Hence I think people might need a helping hand to get started.

Let me know what you think

Dale Rodgers--Dsrodgers34 01:47, 27 July 2009 (EDT)

Not much info on the Kayes and the Rusbys as yet.

Of the personal genealogical websites I have looked at I find it difficult to follow each ancestors relationships. Much easier on WeRelate.

Thank you for your thoughts.--burgjoh 02:37, 27 July 2009 (EDT)

I encourage you both to create portals. You've probably already noticed the instructions on Portal:Community. Thanks!--Dallan 15:37, 28 July 2009 (EDT)

Warnings in ‎BurgarJ.ged [27 July 2009]

Thank you for the gedcom contribution. As I was reviewing it for import I noticed several of the warnings which indicate incorrect dates (died before born or married after death) I want to give you a chance to make note of them because they are much harder to find after the file is released into production. We do have an enhancement planned to note warnings on production pages. Once you are ready to release the file, you can go back to the Import tab and press the Ready to Import button. Thanks. --Judy (jlanoux) 22:30, 27 July 2009 (EDT)

WELLINGS/SULLIVAN [27 June 2010]

Hi John

I know you gave me your personal email address sometime ago and I cannot find it. I havent been using We Relate much because I found it a bit hard to get my head around. I have been working off My Heritage and Ancestry and have had some success. I got an email from We Relate letting me know that something was happening with the people I am interested in and it seems you have been very busy. Do you know if William and Frances Wellings were twins? In some places they have the same year of birth and in others it is different. Also, could you jog my memory again as to how you are related to the Wellings family.

I placed an notice in the Telegraph looking for any descendants of Donald Stuart Sullivan and Elsie Elizabeth Willis (they were my paternal grandparents) and I made contact with my uncle Donald Pearson Sullivan and his daughter.

Cheers......Janine--Jeninemorrisey 14:17, 26 June 2010 (EDT)

HI Jenine

I am related through Winnifred Wellings (GG Grandmother). My Paternal grandmother is Gwen Allen. (burgjoh@gmail.com)

You have "done well" adding your branch of the family. Just open the page of your ancestor and click on "edit" and you can cut and paste any information onto the page. I see ancestry.com is now starting a Wiki like WeRelate.

Cannot find any reference to Williams Wellings birth certificate in NSW BDM. So more "hunting" required. Odd that one birth is registered and the other is not.

http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home I find this site good for finding articles about my ancestors.

Many thanks for your help

John--burgjoh 21:58, 26 June 2010 (EDT)

Source page names [13 October 2010]

Hi, I'm Brenda (kennebec1), one of the volunteer administrators at WeRelate. I've been reviewing some new source pages you created, and notice that you may not always be putting a comma between the last name and first name of the author on the sources you've recently added. I just wanted to alert you to this (see Help:Source page titles for more info). You'll notice I made a few minor changes to some of your recently added sources to get them to conform to this protocol.

It's possible that I haven't done this correctly, as I don't have access to the original sources as you do, so it would be great if you'd take a look on your watchlist and ensure the current source page is correct. Thanks! --Brenda (kennebec1) 16:27, 13 October 2010 (EDT)

Hello from Canada [26 May 2011]

Hello,

I see you have constructed a family tree that matches mine. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. I am the descendant Elizabeth BURGAR (B. 1783 in Westray, Orkney) and Thomas Thompson who came to Canada in 1810. I have also found your profile on ancestry.com, and you live in Australia?? I think we have a common ancestor or something?? Anyhow, hope you respond back.

Stuart--stuson 22:19, 25 May 2011 (EDT)

G'Day Stuart

I do enjoy finding new cousins around the world. Please feel free to Email me on burgjoh@gmail.com and let me know a bit about you. Send me your address so I can look you up on Google Maps.

John--burgjoh 23:41, 25 May 2011 (EDT)

Greetings from Canada [31 July 2011]

Hello,

I'm assuming you're a descendant of John Burgar and Christian Harcus. I'm their 5th great-grand child, what are you to them?

Stuart Thompson--stuson 16:13, 30 July 2011 (EDT)

Hi Stuart

You assumed correctly I am a forth Great Grandson of John Burgar. My great grandfather James and great grandmother Tomima are third cousins. With much help from Jeff Burgher(Father, Stewart http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Stewart_Burgher_%281%29). I am still to fill in some "gaps". I see you are descended from Elizabeth Burgar. When Jeff published his book "Burghers o' Westray" in 1992 "Nothing more was known of Elizabeth". So Jeff would have given me the information on your branch in the form of a GEDCOM file.

WELLINGS FAMILY [28 April 2012]

Hi, It has been an age since I touched base with you and I was wanting to run something by you if that is alright. You and I both have John Welling/Wellings parents as Charles and Ann. I belong to Ancestry and there are a few trees on there with John's parents as being John Wellings and Elizabeth Fletcher. I have no idea where they got those names from, but I have been searching birth records during the night and came across a Charles William Wellings born about 1813 with parents Charles and Ann living in the parish of Lambeth. There is also a record for a John Wellings born about 1816 with parents Charles and Ann also living in the parish of Lambeth. I am fairly sure that our John Wellings is the one I just mentioned and maybe he had a brother Charles. What do you think? Are you a member of Ancestry? I have forgotten (sorry about that) how you fit into the Wellings picture. Hope you don't mind me emailing you but I am finding it very hard going trying to find answers. Regards......Janine Morrissey--Jeninemorrisey 15:32, 28 April 2012 (EDT)

Hi Janine, Good to hear from you. I am working on the assumption that John added an "s" to his name after he got his ticket of leave. So in England I have been looking for Welling not Wellings. There is a family of Wellings who settled on the south coast of NSW that may be related to this other Wellings. I have limited access to Ancestor in our Library but this does not include other peoples trees. So are they Welling or Wellings? That may be the way we can separate these families in England. Must admit I have not spent much time searching that side of the Wellings but have found some more descendants. One who was hit and killed by a car while he was walking into Woolongong and a bride photo of another. You will find them on WeRelate. Look forward to hearing more from you. John

Kaye Family in UK [13 January 2013]

Hi John,Greetings from Shropshire, UK! As son of William Kaye, Born 1914 in Derby, I was most interested to see all the work that has been put in to the family tree. If it's of interest to you I may be able to add a few refinements in days to come (to William's brothers and sisters and their dates)Best wishes,Paul Kaye (paulgkaye@aol.com)--Berdy 13:37, 13 January 2013 (EST)

Tullochs in Westray [15 February 2013]

Thanks for your comments re this page. Please do let me know of any Tullochs you come across (in Westray or elsewhere) who could be added in.

I'm currently working on the ambitious task of documenting the "Tullochs of North Ronaldshay", which is already about 5 times the size of the Tullochs of Westray tree! AndrewRT 13:01, 15 February 2013 (EST) I contacted the author of Burgher o' Westray , Jeff Burgher but he could not tell me anymore about William Tulloch. He did tell me what a good holiday he had staying on North Ronaldshay. Hope he can give some advice in the next few years when we hope to visit Orkney. At present I am attempting to "werelate" information on William Drever from his late daughter Dorothy. If I can find if William Tulloch is no longer with us I will let you know.

Welling [31 August 2013]

Hi John, I stumbled across the name Tronier & soon found that you & I are descendants of John & Amelia Welling. I'm descended from their youngest, Norman Henry. My computer skills are poor, don't know if I've gone about this the right way. Cheers, David.--David S. 23:28, 30 August 2013 (EDT)

Hi David, Always pleased to make contact with a relative. Please add or correct any of the information I have on you branch of the family. There can't be too much wrong with you skills if you managed to contact me. You have probably worked out my paternal grandmothers maternal grandmother was Winifred Wellings. So which one of Norman's children is your descendant?

Pearson [29 November 2013]

Dear John,

I started doing my family tree 16 years ago and have just got back into it and while researching on the net came across a tree that I am 99% sure is connected to me. It is for James Pearson and Eliza Bourne. When I clicked a link for who it belonged to it took me to your contact. Is this your family tree as I may be able to branch out from their son John.

Kindest regards Jacqui--Poss 22:54, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jacqui

I have no record of James and Eliza Pearson having a son John. A search of NSW BDM only shows one John Pearson and his parents are William and Elizabeth. Regards John--burgjoh 03:21, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Dear John,

Sorry I meant their son James' son John. James who married Rebecca Boothby Boardman. I am a descendent from this side.

hello [6 May 2015]

Hi there John. Thanks for correcting my entries. May I ask if you have any family relationship with the currie, burnes, jobson families from Mitchels Island, or just researching family trees ?

regards,

Burner.--Burner 08:07, 6 May 2015 (UTC) Hi Burner As someone said "My children would be related". My Mother-in-law is an Atkins and her side of the family is related to the Jobsons etc. I only have people who are related to one of my three trees, but that can be by marriage. It appears that I have four trees but lately I discovered a connection between the Atkins and the Drury trees beside the one with my inlaws. For some reason people don't want to add information to any of my trees so keep up the good work and I will be pleased to make corrections to the format. Please let me know if I can help in any other way.

Regards John
