Next step: Review your GEDCOM [20 June 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Langston Family Tree.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate lines and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

George Maris and Alice [23 June 2010]

Hi, thanks for contributing. Do you have a source for the new information on Alice (surname and dates)? Please add these. If not, we may just have to use a note of the type "somebody said the wife was Alice Collins, but there is no evidence".
Also, you added a second person as wife. Do you believe he had two wives named Alice? Again thanks, it's nice to see someone working on the same family. --Judy (jlanoux) 08:10, 23 June 2010 (EDT)

Lewis family and beyond & Joseph N Bassett [27 June 2010]

Good to see a distant cousin on here! The Lewis-Bassett-Winne-Raner families are my babies. I have Louis Winne's line further back than I have uploaded - all the way back to the 1600s; if you want me to e-mail you the information as I received it, I can do that, because I (obviously) haven't entered any of it yet.

I was curious if you had more biographical information on Joseph N. "Frank" Bassett than what is displayed here. I've been looking for him and Josephine in 1870 censuses for coming onto 5 years, but so far have had no luck. With the name Frank, I'm starting to look for that.--Obstinatesnooper 20:01, 23 June 2010 (EDT)

Thanks for the message. I am just starting to learn how to navigate through the system, but I will hopefully have some more time soon to get more proficient. Regarding Joseph Frank Bassett, I have an old family photo of the Bassett family from 1890-1891 showing Joseph Frank, Josephine Francis Winnie Bassett and their six children. This was from my grandmother, Myrtle Rose Lewis. When I go visit my parents, I will see what else they have from her. BRLangston (Bruce)--Brlangston 21:31, 25 June 2010 (EDT)

Oh, wow. If you get that scanned in, could you e-mail me a high-res copy? Rosa is my 2g grandmother.--Obstinatesnooper 12:28, 26 June 2010 (EDT)

OK - how do I email you directly?--Brlangston 21:46, 27 June 2010 (EDT)

You should be able to do so by going to my userpage, hit the more link on the left of the page, and 'e-mail' this user should pop up. Thanks =) --Obstinatesnooper 22:35, 27 June 2010 (EDT)

Duplicate families [3 December 2011]

Hi Brlangston,

When you have a moment, please take a look at your Duplicates List by going to My Relate>Show Duplicates. It’s a good idea to check this list on a regular basis. There are a few families there that are potential matches. We have an ongoing site-wide project to merge duplicates, but it is always better if somebody familiar with the families can make the merge. Here is our help page on merging. If you have any questions, just let me know. Thanks! --Jennifer (JBS66) 09:46, 3 December 2011 (EST)

I don't see any reason why Family:Silas Titus and Jane Newdyke (3) and Family:Silas Titus and Constance Colly (1) should be merged, and have therefore unmerged them. Jane and Constance can hardly be confused for the same people. Further, quick searching suggests that the parentage of Robert Titus, the son who is currently included in both families, is unknown, and so, if something absolutely had to be done, it would seem the only acceptable choice would be to remove Robert from both families. This should be sufficient to remove these families from the duplicate lists, and if not, then add a nomerge. However, in my opinion, nothing should be done if you can't provide credible sources. Rash actions fixing garbage data merely results in worse garbage data, bearing less and less resemblance to truth, and making it harder for some later, knowledgeable researcher to clean up this mess. --Jrich 23:54, 3 December 2011 (EST)
