Who was Mercy Grant? I know she married Samuel Gorton, and is listed once as "Mercy" and once as "Mary" and her son went to Sullivan County, NY. She clearly was from the vicinity of New London county, CT.

The "History of Sullivan County" mentions a number of things about the Gorton and Grant families, based on that and some information from Find A Grave, here is an outline of the family tree:

Not sure who this person's father is, he must be one of Joshua's grandsons, he is often mentioned with Joseph when they were children. In some places the middle name is listed as Yarrington, which would point to a son of William:
