Hello. I'm new to this site. I've been a member since July 2012. I'm still learning.
I've been doing genealogy for seven years now. I'm currently working on my Castle family line. We are descendants of Jacob Castle and Mary Shane of Russell County, Virginia. It's a small family in the Appalachia region of Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. It's an easy family to trace via census record associations alone. Three descendants, including my father, have had Y-DNA tests and all have matched. My goal is to strengthen the paper trail.
I have a love of old newspapers. I have spent many hours reading Kentucky newspapers on microfilm from 1880 to 1950. I have posted clippings that I thought were genealogy relevant. I think the newspapers tell a story about our ancestors that census records and public documents can't. Hope you appreciate them too.
