I have participated in the FamilyTreeDNA Project with my Y-DNA sample. Of the current 161 participants of the West Surname 14 of us match in my Group #5. Therefore, we share a common ancestor at some point. Most of us do not go back far enough to find that common ancestor. My ancestor Thomas West (1718-1808) is the fartherest back. I am the only one (of these 14) that can document a direct line back to him. Several believe that their lines go back to him. But, more will probably have a common ancestor a few generations further back than my Thomas. It seems that each in the Group #5 that does not have proof of descent to Thomas should make a Family Tree under this Family Tree called "West Family Y-DNA Group #5." Thus the one I have created should be entitled "Thomas West (1718-1808)." Ben West should make his "Amos West" and each of the others in Group #5 should go to their earliest known ancestor that has been proven back in their line. That way they will be a little easier to access by going to "West Family Y-DNA Group #5" and then clicking on whichever line they want to review or post new info. |
