Born in December of 1781 in Guilford Co., NC, Christian Eslinger migrated to Tennessee, Indiana, Iowa, and Missouri. He married Hannah ________ in about 1801. Their 12 children were born in Jefferson and Greene Counties in Tennessee, and in Orange and Monroe and Putnam Counties in Indiana. Christian's family are in the 1820 census, in Monroe County, Indiana. They were living in Monroe Co. IN at the time of their daughter Mary's marriage. Mary, my ancestor, married Ebenezer Dickey on 1 April 1819.

For a time, Christian Eslinger lived in southeastern Iowa, as did his daughter Mary and her husband, Ebenezer Dickey. Christian acquired original land patents in Des Moines Co., IA, in 1838, at the Land Grant office in Burlington, IA. His land was purchased in Sections 3,4,5,6, and 7, all in Township 69 on 28 Nov. 1838, and one in Section 33 and one in Section 35, both in township 70 on 26 Oct. 1839.

The 1852 Iowa Census for Baltimore Twp., Henry Co., IA, lists:

Christian Eslinger, 1 male and 1 female, 1 voter, total of 2
William Eslinger, 4 males, 3 females 1 voter, 1 militia, total of 7

I do not find Christian in either the 1854 or 1856 Iowa State Census.

In 1857, he acquired land in Webster Co., MO: LAND GRANT IN MISSOURI [image in files] http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Results.asp?QryId=85780.27 Patentee Name: ESLINGER, CHRISTIAN MO Webster Co. Date of Issue: 5/15/1857 Land Office: Springfield Document Number 18278 Accession/Serial Nr.: MO5480__.416

By 1860 Christian was living in Webster Co., MO, appearing there in the census. Apparently his wife had died by that time, but it is thought that both died in Ozark Twp., Webster Co., Missouri. Christian's will in that county bears the date of March 31, 1860.
