On average the 10 million family trees have each over 100 profiles (people)

I'd assess that the 8 million current users would find it advantgeous to have at least one tree in public trees.

i'd really like to know that of the unique records in census (I estimate there would be one 'real' person for every 2-3 census entries 1800/40-1900 how many people have linked to people in their trees.

My guess from my sample of a parish in england would be between 20% and 50%

Its not in ancestry's long term interrst for people to actually resolve all these people because the need for ancestry would diminish = people would not resolve their family trees because other people are increasingly likely to have done it already for them
