About Me

Hello Fellow Researchers. My name is Jean Atkinson Andrews. I read an article in Ancestry magazine about WeRelate and decided to have a look - wow, am I glad I did! It will take me awhile to learn the wiki system, but having recently made contact with several "cousins" of my husband's direct line, I cannot think of a better place for us all to work together.

My serious genealogy research started in 2006 before leaving full-time employment. Although I dabbled briefly in genealogy (OK, name collecting) in my 20's, education and a full time career in finance took over for many years. After leaving full-time employment, I picked it up again and have been completely smitten since.

Unfortunately, neither my husband or my family cared a whit about ancestors, stories, or keepsakes so I basically started from nothing. Fortunately, we live in the age of personal computers, and my organizational, research, and analytical skills from my previous profession serve me well.

I started with my husband's direct line - Andrews, and was able to prove them back to Ohio before 1820 qualifying him for membership in the Ohio Genealogical Society's First Families of Ohio lineage society. As a sixth generation resident of Ohio and life-long OSU Buckeye fan, this pleases him greatly.

Besides Andrews, other significant surnames and areas of research include my Atkinson line in Indiana and Illinois, and my husbands maternal Norden line in Kirchwalsede, Germany.

My interest in genealogy does not extend simply to researching my own and related families, I am also enrolled in the National Genealogical Society (NGS) home study course and hope to complete my submissions in mid-2010. After completing the course, I plan to begin work on my CG (Certified Genealogist) submissions through the Board for Certification of Genealogists. This year (2010) I am a candidate for election to the NGS Board of Directors as Treasurer.

In addition to NGS, OGS, and APG, I am a member of the Illinois State Genealogical Society, New England Historic Genealogical Society, and Fulton and Henry County (Ohio) Genealogical Societies.

GEDCOM Notes April 2010 For privacy reasons, etc I do not list other researchers by name, or as sources without their permission. If they wish they can register, add their name, and enter family information.

Please Note: No living people will be listed in the database.

Everyone listed is deceased. Some of the people now in WeRelate do not have a known date of birth or death date, but are deceased.
