Analysis

Based primarily on the extracts from versions 2 and three. Version 1 lacks the notation "under age 16" for the children.

Son John is identified as the eldest son (not necessarily the eldest child). He is above the age of 16 as that age is clearly being used in reference to the other children as the age of majority. That implies that he was born before 1677. Birth record

Gives DOB as 1668

Daughter "Grace Benson" is also above the age of majority. What is probably taken as her middle name ("Benson") in many genealogies is more likely to be her last name, indicating that she is either married, or that she is the child of her mother by a previous marriage. Most likely she is married. Her DOB (1672) is consistent with this being her married name, as she would have been 21 at her fathers death.

There are five other children that are below the age of 16, and therefore born after 1677. Assuming a two year interval between children 16 years have elapsed since the eldest child was born. Assuming that the first child was born a year after marriage, the latest likely DOM for this couple would be 1676. This is consistent with the eldest son being born in 1677. However, child birthrecords for eldest children JOhn Robert and Grace, suggest a DOM of 1667
