be thot. that some were b. to Richard, or Thomas, the entry on the rec.
of the ch. oft. nam. not f. but the rite being admin. only for sis. O. at
least, in the case of not a few other names, such was the custom. That
the three first nam. ch. belong to Jeremiah, is denied by Mr. Porter, but
he gives two others, Joseph, 15 Dec. 1667; and Rebecca, 11 July 1673.
He was rep. 1672-4, d. 1676. His wid., s. Jeremiah, and their heirs were
proprs. 1685. JEREMIAH, New Haven, s. of the preced. m. Sarah,
wid.
of Timothy Gibbard, had Sarah, b. 19 May 1689; and Jonathan,
29 Mar. 1692; and d. 4 Jan. 1713. JOHN, Braintree, had Matthew,
wh. d. May 1641. JOHN, Weymouth, by w. Mary had John, b.
2 Feb. 1640; and Ephraim, 11 Aug. 1657; but how many or wh.
intermediate, is not found; yet his d. Mary m. 7 May 1659, John
Ross. JOHN, Windsor, m. 19 May 1645, Ann, only ch. of Richard
Oldage
, had John, b. 10 Jan. 1646; Ann, 15 Jan. 1648; Nathaniel, 10
Mar. 1650; Samuel, 25 July 1652, d. soon; Mary, 16 Apr. 1655;
Hannah, 18 Dec. 1657; Samuel, again, 8 May 1660; Esther, 9 Aug.
1662; Isaac, 28 Sept. 1664, d. at 9 yrs.; and Sarah, 8 Feb. 1667. He
d. 27 Oct. 1686, when were liv. beside John, Nathaniel, and Samuel, all
the ds. exc. Ann, wh. m. 12 Nov. 1663, Humphrey Prior, and had left
two s.; Mary, m. 22 Oct. 1674, Josiah Owen; Hannah, m. Elias Shadduck,
and next, m. 6 Mar. 1678, Benjamin Eggleston. JOHN, Southampton,
L. I. 1650, was, perhaps, s. of Thomas. JOHN, Westfield, s. of
John of Windsor, m. 31 Oct. 1674, Abigail, d. of Bagot Eggleston, had
John, b. 25 Aug. 1670; rem. to Windsor, there had Abigail, 2 Mar.
1672; Mindwell, 2 Jan. 1674; Ann, Jan. 1676; Mary, Jan. 1678;
Hannah, 14 June 1680; Sarah, 12 Aug. 1682, both d. young; Elizabeth 19
Dec. 1684; Martha, 10 Apr. 1687; tw. s. b. and d. 3 Feb. 1692; Isaac,
6 June 1694; and fam. tradit. says, he rem. to L. I. there had Mary,
again, 10 Feb. 1696; and Jacob, 4 Jan. 1698. JOHN, Boston, by w.
Elizabeth had John and Thomas, tw. b. 11 June 1670; and Elizabeth 25 Dec.
1673, in wh. yr he was freem. being, of 2d ch. JOHN, Salem, m.
5 Oct. 1670, Elizabeth Ruck, prob. d. of John, had Elizabeth and John. Their
gr.mo. Elizabeth Spooner, in her will of June 1677, drives me to suspect,
that he is the same as the preced. and that Boston rec. is not trustworthy
in date of b. of the first two chapters. See Essex Inst. II. 236. JOHN,
Fairfield, s. of Richard, m. Sarah, d. of James Bennett, had Samuel, John,
David, Joseph, and Elizabeth but dates of either m. or b. are unheard of, and he
d. 1709. NICHOLAS, Pemaquid, took the o. of fidel. to Mass. 22 July
1674. RECOMPENSE, New Haven, was by the late lamented Professor
Kingsley, thot. to be s. of Thomas, H. C. 1661, tho. it is less prob. from
Geneal. Reg. XI. 345, than that he was s. of William, and aft. leav. coll.
taught the sch. at New Haven, until he rem. to East Hampton, on L. I.
he coll. catal. has never yet been advis. of the yr. of his d. tho. it was
bef. the Magnalia of 1698. RICHARD, Hingham, one of the first sett.
1635, rem. soon to Conn. serv. in the Pequot war 1637; next, to New
Haven bef. 1640, where he had one ch. as early as 1643. Thence he rem.
to Fairfield 1653, and had there in 1671, a gr. of 80 acres for his serv. in
