Thomas of Marshfield. He was lieut. capt. and major, rep. 1656 many
yrs. up to 1679, yet not freem. bef. 1682, if we follow the official lists;
but as a strenuous asserter of liberty against the governm. after the nullificat.
of the old chart. one of the most disting. he had the honor of
being imprison. at Boston, fin. £50, and bound in £1000 for a yr. on acco.
of resistance to the arbitra. taxation. See Revo. in N. E. justif. His will
of 16 Feb. 1698, was pro. 27 Mar. 1700, but he d. 4 Nov. 1699. ‡ * JOHN,

, had Eliz.; Nathaniel, b. 9 Dec. 1693, H. C. 1712, the min. of
Cambridge; Margaret; Daniel, b. 1695; and Priscilla, 1697. He was
freem. 1682, largely employ. in pub. offices, town clk. 1687, rep. 1697,
and next yr. a council. in wh. place he serv. many yrs. beside being judge
of pro. d. 11 Sept. 1739. JOHN, Ipswich, s. of Samuel the sec. eldest by
his sec. w. rem. perhaps to Salem, m. there 1689, Rebecca, d. of John
Ruck, had John, b. 1695; and Benjamin. He had for sec. w. m. 1700, a
wid. Dutch, but wh. was her bapt. name, or wh. was her former h. or f.
or when she d. are all untold; but he d. 1724. OLIVER, Ipswich, youngest
br. of Isaac of the same, by w. Sarah had Joseph; John, b. 1707; Oliver,
1712; Samuel, 1713; Daniel; Nathaniel, 1721; beside Joanna, and two
more ds. but I regret to mark the deficiency of dates, and sometimes of
names. He was well provid. for in the will of his f. and d. 1759. * SAMUEL,
Ipswich, s. of Thomas of Little Waldingfield Co. Suffk. b. 1586,
came 1635, with fam. hav. project. earlier settlem. as is well infer. from
the expressn. in a letter of his neighb. our first Gov. Winthrop 14 Aug.
1630, soon after arr. here, to his s. John in Eng. that Mr. A. can have no
cows, because more than half of their stock d. on the passage. He was
sw. freem. 25 May 1636, and chos. rep. next yr. He serv. in that capacity
no other yr. and d. at Rowley 1670. The w. brot. by him from Eng.
was Mary Everard, and their five ch. all b. bef. his coming, over, were John,
bef. ment. b. 1622; Samuel, 1624; Sarah, 1697, wh. m. prob. 1652
or 3, Rev. Samuel Phillips of Rowley, in whose ho. the f. d.; Judith, wh.
m. 12 Dec. 1657, Samuel Rogers of I. and d. 1659; and Martha, wh. m.
