Explanations

The following summarizes entries in Chalkley's Chronicles related to the Houston family in Old Augusta County. The spelling of the surname is usually either Houston or Huston, though other variants sometimes appear in the records. Extract of the text uses whatever spelling Chalkley recorded. The data are organized by given name, and then by volume. The page number shown is the page number in the appropriate volume of Chalkley's Chronicles. The "Most likely Person column identifies the person on WeRelate that the individual item is thought to correspond to. It may be difficult to make such a determination, especially when there are multiple people with the same name. Color coding of the "Most likely Person" column identifies the major family line that the person is believed to belong to, as follows:

Teste: John Burk. Most World Family Trees on Ancesty identify ELizabeth as the daughter of Archibald Houston (2). A contrarian view (one family tree) identifies her as the dau of William Houston and Mary Burk, married 1774 Philadelphia 2nd Presbyterian Church. William is given as a descendant of Christopher Houston of the MCH line. Both Chirstopher and Archibald are Mill Creek Hundred, though we don't yet know Archibalds specific connection. While intriguing, it seems more likely that Elizabeth is Archibalds daughter as we know he had a dau. Elizabeth who was probably under age at his death in 1774, b) this Elizabeth is listed as a spinster in this record, and that her mother Mary gave her consent. The mother could be either Mary Stephenson, or Mary Burke, so the identity of Elizabeth of this record remains unclear. But in either case, she would be Mill Creek Hundred.
