Rev. John Maverick Not a Founder of Windsor [13 June 2011]

He should not be cited as leading the trek from Dorchester to Windsor (in the brief history at the head of this template). Rev. John Maverick apparently did not remove to Windsor. "Mr. Maverick expected to remove to Connecticut, but died Feb. 3, 1636-7, aged "about sixty." [Stiles Windsor (1891), 21]. The John Maverick sketch [The Great Migration Begins, II:1242] says "DEATH: Dorchester 3 February 1635[/6] ("Mr. John Maverick, teacher of the church of Dorchester, died, being near sixty years of age. He was a [blank] man of a very humble spirit, and faithful in furthering the work of the Lord here, both in the churches and civil state" [WJ 1:216]). Note that he is not listed among the founders of Windsor which he certainly must have had he ever actually removed. By the way, Stiles probably got the date slightly off; I've got more faith in Winthrop than in Stiles.--jaques1724 20:08, 13 June 2011 (EDT)

Done. I'll let someone else change Wikipedia!--Amelia 23:05, 13 June 2011 (EDT)
Thanks-Rev. John is the only one of my ancestors (always subject to review as new data becomes available) before the late 1800's who was a college graduate. Always found it interesting that his children and descendants drifted off to areas where religious orthodoxy was less of an issue; i.e., northern Essex and Maine.--jaques1724 23:49, 13 June 2011 (EDT)
