"I [ Ira Couch ] was born in ________ Co., KY, 1812. My father Martin Couch came to Ky from New River (on Holston). Old John Campell's wife was my father's sister. Old James Lewis' wife was another.

My Father settled at the mouth of Lick Branch in Perry County. He had seven sons, Jo, Thomas, Eli, John, Charles, Ira. All those are dead but me. He had a brother John who came with him. John has sons: Wm., Andy, Lige, Dick, the latter died young. My father also had another brother James whose son lives in Clay "Stutter" John.

My grandfather John Couch came with them. My mother was Sally Hall, Aunt of Philip Hall. They came a long time before I was born. My father was born before his parents came here."
