The following list of surnames has been developed from the Southwest Virginia Project Register of persons shown to be living within the boundaries of the Southwest Virginia Project between (roughly) 1769 and 1776. This list is based on selected sources, such as the Ebbing Springs Call or militia rosters, that pinpoint the presence of a substantial number of person. It is highly likely that other surnames could be added to this list based on court records for example. The present list of 463 surnames, exlusive of variants, is likely to keep us busy for sometime, but additional surnames will undoubtedly be added as they come to hand.
