Is this the same as Source:New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (New York Genealogical and Biographical Society) and Source:New York Genealogical and Biographical Record? The title page I am currently viewing (1899) says "The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record", not "The Record". --Jrich 16:12, 2 May 2011 (EDT)

Those two mentioned look to me to be the same as this source; I do favor this presentation. I'm surprised to see this material available on FHL films! The articles (not the facts) are copyrighted. --Janiejac 18:21, 2 May 2011 (EDT)
For a shorter title, I have already created Source:NYGBR as I have often seen it referred to this way in other places, i.e., not just internally to itself. I would never dream of searching for "Record" in a library catalog, and so don't think it is good to indicate that that is its title. Same thoughts about "Register", and all the various registers whose fans might like to claim that for their own short title.
If NYGBR started publishing in 1870, and since everything through 1922 would be out of copyright, those 53 years of magazines might account for all those films at the FHL. In any event, the FHL has many films of copyrighted material because they sign an agreement with the copyright owners in order that their patrons can use the films, with the limitation that it is for their "personal research".
Besides the FHL, the Internet archive has many volumes of NYGBR available online. I have seen at least volume 53, though I thought I remembered seeing some in the 60's. (As I can't find them now, though, maybe I was confusing it with something else.) --Jrich 20:54, 2 May 2011 (EDT)

Should only be one source page [1 February 2012]

This is a good example why there should not be two pages for the same source. So all the data being added to this page is probably helpful, but belongs on Source:New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (New York Genealogical and Biographical Society) the properly named page for this magazine. This page should be redirect to that. The title of the page is governed by conventions that say it is 'periodical name (publisher)'. The title page says the title is New York Genealogical and Biographical Record. --Jrich 13:08, 1 February 2012 (EST)

I've been shooting for having a list of all the direct links to individual volumes of this publication. Not sure if I'm following repositories conventions or not. Murphynw 17:14, 1 February 2012 (EST)
Adding the links is a good idea (although people usually build a table in the narrative part, see Source:Dedham Historical Register (Dedham Historical Society) or Source:Connecticut, United States. Barbour Collection of Connecticut Town Vital Records or for similar examples). The problem is that the page you are working on isn't the proper page for NYGBR. Eventually somebody will need to copy it to the correct page and then redirect the Record there. --Jrich 17:49, 1 February 2012 (EST)
That would be fine to redirect. I'd like to start making some links in FamilySearch Wiki over to the correct version of this page. Is this the page I should direct folks to: Source:New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (New York Genealogical and Biographical Society)? I'll take a look at the tables in the narration. Thanks! Murphynw 17:51, 1 February 2012 (EST)
