The Family of William Gilchrist

William Gilchrist; Born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, January 10, 1769. Married Jane Smith, in that county, about 1792.

I. Nancy Gilcrest; Born in 1794, in Washington, County, Pennsylvania. Married William Brokaw in that county in 1812.
II. Mildred Gilcrest; Born January 27th, 1796, in Washington, County, Pennsylvania. Married Isaac Brokaw, in Belmont County, Ohio. Mr. Brokaw was a carpenter. He died December 22d, 1880, at Humboldt, Kansas. Mildred died at Princeton, Illinois, March 4th, 1884. They were lifetime members of the Presbyterian church.
III. Mary Gilcrest; Born January 1st, 1799, in Washington, County, Pennsylvania. Married Joshua Fawcett, in Belmont County, Ohio. Died April 22d, 1874.
IV. John Smith Gilcrest; Born December 25th, 1800. A millwright by trade in earlier days in

Ohio. In 1866 he moved to Iowa, locating at Des Moines, the older sons having preceded him in 1856. Soon after locating at Des Moines, he engaged in the lumber and planing mill business.
Married Christina Kirk March 32st, [sic] 1831. Died at Des Moines, January 12th, 1873. Christina Kirk was born March 11th, 1813. Died May 8th, 1889. they were long time members of the Christian Church.
V. Jane Gilcrest; Born March 12th, 1805, in Washington, County, Pennsylvania. Married Mahlon Fawcett, January 10th, 1828, in Belmont County, Ohio. Died in November, 1832. Mr. Fawcett married again and his next family consisted of thirteen children. They are not listed in this record.
VI. William Gilcrest; Born November 23d, 1807, in Washington, County, Pennsylvania. A millwright by trade. Moved to Michigan in an early day. Married a Miss Seelick at Coldwater, Michigan. Died there August 19th, 1855, the result of a runaway accident. The widow was still living at Coldwater in 1893 at the age of seventy-three years.
VII. Margaret Gilcrest; Born early in 1809 in Washington, County, Pennsylvania. Married Richard McCranor in Brook County, Virginia. Died in Wellsburg in 1833. They had but one child which died in infancy.
VIII. Robert Gilcrest; Born February 28th, 1810 in Washington, County, Pennsylvania. Millwright and miller by trade. Operated a mill for a long time near Akron, Ohio. Date of first marriage in 1832. His wife died in 1838, leaving two children. He married the second time, Rebecca Myers, in Summit County, Ohio. Rebecca Myers was born

May 17th, 1817, in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
IX. Thomas Coscory Gilcrest; Born August 1st, 1812, in Washington County, Pennsylvania. A wagon maker by trade but in latter years a farmer. Married Eleanor Guthrie May 27th, 1835, at New Athens, Ohio. Eleanor was born December 27th, 1817; died January 24th, 1862, near Marysville, Ohio. His second marriage was to Mrs. Eliza J. Kennedy, November 2nd, 1865, in Marshall County, Illinois. Eliza J. died September 29th, 1894, at Rutland, Illinois. Thomas C. died September 4th, 1899, at Blue Springs, Nebraska, in the home of his oldest daughter, Mrs. W. A. Hollenback.
X. Alexander Campbell Gilcrest; Born November 10th, 1815 in Belmont County, Ohio. He, like others of the family, was a millwright by trade. He married, first, Sophia Bliss, at Akron, Ohio. She lived a few years only. There were two children, Lois Prudence and Caroline. He then married Matilda Jane Vallandingham, and of this marriage there were three children.
Early in the fifties he moved to Bureau County Illinois, locating at Princeton, the county seat. After he spent a short time merchandising there be [sic] bought a farm three miles south of Princeton and engaged in farming and fruit raising. For a number of years he operated an extensive vinegar factory, working up his own surplus fruit and that of the neighborhood.
At this place, he died July, 22d, 1887. His widow, Matilda J. survived him several years. She died August 4th or 5th, 1908, at Kearney Nebraska.
XI. Caroline Gilcrest; Born February 16th, 1820 in Belmont County, Ohio. Married William

Hamilton Mason, December 3d, 1843, in Green County, Ohio. They moved to Bureau County, Illinois in 1848, located at Princeton and engaged in merchandising. In the fall of 1871 they moved to Vernon County, Missouri, locating on a farm near Carbon Center. Here Mrs. Mason died August 3d, 1902. Mr. Mason died March 10, 1910 at Nevada, Missouri.
