Hello Renee. You are correct about Attacullaculla/Attakullakulla not being blood of ole Oconostota... he picked him up on a raid. Many believe that Oconostota gave young Attacullaculla to his wife Nionee (Nionee is the daughter of a Tuscarorran Chief given to Oconostota as a closing of a Peace Treaty between the 2 Nations.) to raise as her own with Oconostota... however, many believe that Attacullaculla was really Nionee's son to begin with. And, there appears to be a confusion regarding Nionee being a wife of Attacullaculla... there are 2. Nionee (1) is Oconostota's wife and either step-mother or birth-mother of Attacullaculla. Nionee (2) is a daughter of Oconostota and Nionee (1). Now, according to Cherokee Tradition... Attacullaculla could not marry his sister or half-sister and that would then make Nionee (1) not his birth-mother if in fact Attacullaculla did in fact marry Nionee (2).

It does get confusing. Someone taught me to put birth years next to names to help keep the similar names different. It is a good idea and I will work on it.

Another thing to keep in mind... is that those genealogies that are handed down from one generation to the next in old Cherokee families propably have more credence than those just researching off the net. I have the same problem with some of my lines.

The above information about Nionee came from a cousin (One of my Oconostota's descendent cousins... like me) who spoke directly to the Cherokee-Tuscarorran Tribe who descend directly from Oconostota and Nionee and still live in that same area today. She went there to do research and meet with her cousins. I have only spoken to the Chief andf his wife on the phone.

Hope this helps some.

Peace and blessings.

I have found links to that place too. And I am trying to find out if john ridges route didn't go by that place before heading west. if he did then it should show some links to that group somehow.

On the attacullaculla family. many of the pedigrees are built on the assumption his is blood grandson of old hop. he isn't. he was adopted. but I am sure that old hop is in the blood relation of attacullaculla children. but not all of attacullaculla sons are from Nionee either. so I lean to certain pedigrees as probably more accurate and not to others!

Hello. I am looking for information on Dragging Canoe's wives and children. Many know about Leaf... but my cousins told me that there are some family stories about Dragging Canoe and a woman from Lookout Mountain who was from the ancient ones there... some say that she was either Natchez or that she was a Napuchi (?). Dragging Canoe was to have had children with her. Not much, if anything is known about this union.

Also, I have seen conflicting genealogies of who Dragging Canoe's parents and grandparents are... I used to think that Oconostota was hi uncle... lately, I have seen ole Oconostota as his grandfather. I am descended from Oconostota and Woman of Wolf Clan's daughter - Jennie of Wolf Clan who married Johann Conrad.

Just curious and confused.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Peace and blessings.
