Vital records are a cornerstone of family history research because they were typically created at or near the time of the event, making the record more likely to be accurate. This collection consists of indexes to deaths in the five Boroughs of New York City reported to the Health Department prior to 1949. Note that the index collection is not complete. The following are the currently available death record indexes:
