Chiefly the ancestors and some of their descendants of Ruth Margaret Mellenbruch Martin born September, 19, 1918 to Parl L. and Orpha Tonsing Mellenbruch in Atchison, Kansas. She married in 1943. Ruth attended school in Springfield, Ohio. She did undergraduate and graduate work in Ohio, Kentucky and Florida and had a career as a high school teacher in Ohio and Florida. Ancestors include Gebhardt Harres (1801-1863) "...born in Brunswick, Germany..."--p. 2, immigrated to America and resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died in 1863 while visiting his mother in Atchison, Kansas. William L. Challiss (1827-1909). "Dr. and Mrs. Challis came to Atchison [Kansas]...from Moorestown, N. J. In 1857 they homesteaded...west of Atchison..."--p. 8. James C. Martin (1803-1889) was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania and died in Atchison, Kansas. Johan Heinrich Toensing (1779-1853) was born in Barkausen, Hanover. He died June ll, 1853. Alfred Gideon Otis (1827-1912) was born in Cortland, New York and died in Atchison, Kansas. His granddaughter Amelia Mary Earhart, second child of Amelia (Amy) Otis and Edward Stanton Earhart, later became the world famous aviatrix known as the..."first lady of the skies"...-- p. 90. Some of their descendants are also included. Descendants lived in Kansas, Texas, California, New York, Michigan, New Jersey, Florida, Oklahoma and elswhere.
