The Brooklyn Public Library has made available an online archive of the newspaper the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, from 1841 to 1902. The archive contains actual images of the newspaper, but has also been converted to text for a robust online text search capability. The newspaper may be viewed by date, or it may be searched by keywords. The searchable index covers articles, advertisements, and picture captions. The newspaper is a rich genealogical resource, not only for wedding and death announcements, but a variety of other social, legal, and business contexts that Brooklyn residents are mentioned in.
