"Alden Smith Swan, son of John Howell and Mary F.(Winchester) Swan, was born in Stephentown, N.Y., Dec. 30, 1838, and died in Brooklyn, N.Y., Feb. 22, 1917. He married in Boston, Mass., Oct. 6, 1863, Mary Althea Farwell, born there Jan. 6, 1841; died in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dec. 18, 1921" --p. 9.
