Commentary

William Henry Egle served as the Pennsylvania State Archivist from XXXX-YYYY. He periodically published a series of newspaper articles, under the title "Notes and Queries" relating to the family history of Pennsylvania, particularly in the Harrisburg area. Most of the the articles dealt with his personal notes on various family lines, and extracts of data from original documents, such as tax lists, etc. An occassional query from an interested reader, asking for information about a particular family, would also creep into the articles, as an early version of "Genealogical Helper", and todays message boards. Late in life Egle compiled his articles in a series of volumes Titled "Egles Notes and Queries".
