The Daily Herald, according to Repository:Chronicling America Historic American Newspapers (record), started publication in 1987 and remains a going concern. For the three decades between 1957 and 1987, the paper was published under the title of The Delphos Herald. For around six decades between 1894 and 1957, the paper was published under the title of The Delphos Daily Herald. The Ancestry collections 7414 and 7276 appear to be the early issues of this paper. At first look in Chronicling America records, The Delphos Weekly Herald appears to be an independent concern, published by D. H. Tolan starting in 1869, but having a confusingly alternative title of The Delphos Herald; the Ancestry collection 7413 appears to be from this paper's early publications. The online The Delphos Herald provides some history which links this title to the present one. The D. H. Tolan paper was taken over by his son, Clair Tolan, who renamed it to The Delphos Daily Herald in 1894. In 1910, the Delphos Printing and Publishing Company formed and took over operations of the paper. |
